Vincent Van Gogh Activity

Activity: In this activity, we learned about Vincent Van Gogh and learned one of his famous paintings, A Stary Night. To start, we picked a piece of construction paper and found 3 different color strips of tissue paper. After we had chosen our 3 colors, we glued them on with a paintbrush and gel medium. We had to cover the tissue paper front and back with the gel medium to make sure it stuck to the construction paper. I had picked 3 different types of pink for my dark background to make a pink northern sky at the north pole. Once we were done gluing it down, we set it out overnight to dry. Once it was dry we went over our tissue paper with crayons and oil pastels, I included snowflakes, snow, lines, and swirls. Then I created a landscape with white construction paper. I chose to make an igloo and penguins for my landscape. We then added three facts about Vincent Van Gogh on a separate piece of paper.

Extension Activity: I would use this in a geography lesson when we learn about different landscapes. I could have each student pick a different landscape and create a picture that accurately represents that chosen landscape. They can also include some facts about that landscape as well!
