Dot Day Activity

Activity description: For this activity we celebrated International Dot Day, September 15! We read the story “The Dot” by Peter H Reynolds. We then were given coffee filters to make our own dot. We were then given markers, oil pastels, crayons, sharpie, and water colors. We were able to create unique designs as well as watch how they blend when mixed with water colors. We did all of our coloring and painting on a paper plate to reduce cleaning from the project.

Extension Activity: for an extension activity, I would have the students make one of these in Language Arts class. They could choose to make their own dot on what a book means to them. They could recreate the cover, something about the character, or a symbol of the book. This would give them the freedom to create something unique about the book we are reading.
